Now Collecting Winter Clothing

Please join us to help families in need by providing new or clean, gently used winter clothing items through October 13. Drop off winter coats, boots, hats, gloves, snow pants and scarves to Bethesda Lutheran Church (439 Main St.) or any of these other locations in Jewell, Iowa:

  • Availa Bank (702 Main St.)

  • First State Bank (548 Main St.)

  • Jewell Family Chiropractic (717 Main St.)


Bergen Lutheran Church Celebrates 150 Years: Sep. 28-29

A celebration is planned at Bergen Lutheran in Roland with an open house on Saturday, September 28, and on Sunday, September 29, the schedule includes:

  • 10:00 a.m. worship service with holy communion

  • 11:00 a.m. lunch

  • 12:00 p.m. program featuring special music and storytelling


Timberland Worship Service: Oct. 1

Bethesda Lutheran Church conducts a Worship Service at Timberland for all residents and anyone else interested, the first Tuesday of each month, starting at 2:00 p.m.


Northeast Iowa Synodical Women’s Organization Fall Field Trip: Oct. 19

The Fall Field Trip includes tours of the Grotto of the Redemption at West Bend, lunch at the Wagon Wheel in West Bend ($ on your own), and tours of the P.O.W. Museum ($5.00) in Algona and the Algona P.O.W. Nativity Scene (free-will donation). Car pools will meet at ‘hubs’ and travel to West Bend for the first tour at 10:00 a.m. RSVP by October 14 to Chris VanDeventer (cdvandeven@gmail.com or 515-320-2877).


Memorial Service for Pastor Gary Olson: Oct. 21

Pastor Gary Olson (served at Bethesda 1986-1988), 89 years old, passed away August 30, 2024. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake, Iowa, Monday, October 21, at 10:00 a.m.


The Lord’s Cupboard Food Pantry

The Lord’s Cupboard, a proud partner of Food Bank of Iowa, is open every Monday from 5:00-6:30 p.m., as well as the first Monday of each month from 1:00-2:00 pm. If you have questions or want to help, please contact the church office (515-827-5148), Karla (515-310-0151), Barb (515-231-3571) or Donna (515-460-1688).

How you can help:

  • Share these services with those in need

  • Donate goods (anything you use at home, we can use, too)

  • Volunteer to help

Most critical needs:

  • Jello

  • Ramen noodles

  • Canned peaches

  • Soup

  • Cereal

  • Soap


Tuesday Together Time

The community is invited to “Tuesday Together Time” each Tuesday at noon at Bethesda Lutheran Church. Bring a potluck dish to share with others. All tableware is provided. Don’t have food prepared, please come! There is always plenty and, if you desire, a container is provided for you to put a little donation in to go toward Global Good Gifts.


The Lunch Wagon — Jewell Residents

Do you need assistance with meals? Do you live in Jewell? Are you homebound? Are you recovering at home? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you can contact Susan Lund (515-290-3000) or Sarah Freeman (515-291-1528).

  • Lunches will be delivered Monday through Friday between 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

  • The cost of the lunch is $5.00 per meal.

  • Lunches on Monday-Thursday are prepared by Jewell Market

  • Lunches on Friday are prepared by The Malibu.

  • Lunches will NOT be delivered on holidays.


Bethesda Call Committee

When a vacancy occurs in a position for which this congregation calls a minister, a Call Committee of six voting members shall be elected by the congregation council. The call committee has been formed and includes:
